A HURRICANE WATCH MEANS THAT HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE WATCH AREA WITHIN 48 HOURS.
TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE REMAINING ISLANDS OF THE BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.
A TROPICAL STORM WARNING MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE WARNING AREAS WITHIN 36 HOURS.
AT 5 AM EDT THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ISAAC WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 19.0 DEGREES NORTH AND LONGITUDE 73.3 DEGREES WEST OR ABOUT 182 MILES SOUTH OF MATTHEW TOWN INAGUA, 224 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF GRAND TURK IN THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS, AND 227 MILES SOUTH OF ABRAHAM’S BAY MAYAGUANA.
TROPICAL STORM ISAAC IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 14 MILES PER HOUR AND A WEST-NORTHWEST TO NORTHWEST MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS WITH SOME INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED. ON THE FORECAST TRACK THE CENTER OF ISAAC SHOULD MAKE LANDFALL IN HAITI SOON…MOVE NEAR OR OVER EASTERN CUBA TODAY…AND MOVE NEAR THE NORTH COAST OF CUBA TONIGHT AND APPROACH THE FLORIDA KEYS ON SUNDAY.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 60 MILES PER HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST AFTER ISAAC MOVES OVER EASTERN CUBA LATER TODAY…ISAAC IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE ON SUNDAY.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 230 MILES MAINLY NORTHWEST AND NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER.
INAGUA, MAYAGUANA AND GRAND TURK ARE CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS. ON THE PROJECTED TRACK, TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS WILL SPREAD INTO ACKLINS, CROOKED ISLAND, LONG ISLAND, RAGGED ISLAND, GREATER EXUMA AND RAGGED ISLAND LATER TODAY. HOWEVER, THIS TRACK WILL LESSEN THE THREAT TO THE ISLANDS IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS THAT INCLUDES NEW PROVIDENCE, GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, ELEUTHERA, BIMINI AND THE BERRY ISLANDS.
GENERALIZED FLOODING IS EXPECTED IN ALL OF THE ISLANDS IN THE WARNING AREAS.
RESIDENTS IN THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS SHOULD HAVE COMPLETED PREPARATION FOR THE PASSAGE OF TROPICAL STORM ISAAC. RESIDENTS IN THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS SHOULD RUSH TO COMPLETION PREPARATIONS TO PROTECT OUTDOOR PROPERTIES. ELSEWHERE, RESIDENTS SHOULD CONTINUE TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF ISAAC IN THE EVENT OF ANY SHIFT IN THE STORM’S TRACK AND INTENSITY.
SMALL CRAFT OPERATORS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT AND ENSURE THAT THEIR VESSELS ARE SAFELY MOORED.
THE NEXT ALERT ON TROPICAL STORM ISAAC WILL BE ISSUED AT 9AM EDT SATURDAY.
